Ashley Marshall began his career in the kitchens of The Dorchester, The Ivy and La Caprice — places where the instinct to combine unexpected elements into something extraordinary becomes second nature. He applied exactly that instinct to jewellery, founded Azuni London in 1995, and has been doing something quite remarkable ever since.

Inspired by extensive travels in South America and deep immersion in Native American culture, Ashley developed a design philosophy he calls Urban Tribes — ancient and tribal art forms blended with contemporary fashion and pop culture. The result is handcrafted jewellery with genuine character: hand-textured, beaded, engraved and oxidised by artisans, featuring semi-precious stones, 24ct gold plate and the kind of considered detail that rewards being looked at closely. Not a trademark style so much as a restless, ever-evolving creative intelligence. Twenty-nine years. Hundreds of collections. Never boring.

Azuni has been stocked at Liberty of London, Galeries Lafayette and Lane Crawford, commissioned by Paul Smith, Jigsaw, Whistles and Emanuel Ungaro — and worn by the Duchess of Cambridge on multiple occasions. The semi-precious drop earrings she wore on a visit to Australia remain a touchstone piece.
